following his self titled lp, illa j sometimes known as “john regal” (born october 13.1986 in detroit, michigan) is a singer, songwriter, rapper, producer, multi instrumentalist. he takes us on a trip to his hometown detroit with his third solo album home. his last lp successfully took illa j out of his brother and hiphop legend j dilla‘s shadow to show he is in his own lane. yet, yancey still felt as though he was in a box labeled rapper. teaming up with producer calvin valentine, who entirely produced the album, home is illa j‘s first album to properly showcase the full extent of his vocal range to put him in the singer-songwriter conversation. the listener can feel the soulfulness of this lp through illa j‘s singing and valentines‘ smooth production.

this record is the result of an undeniable desire to uncover a once lost and forgotten gem from beyond the dust. to recover the magic underneath, that has never grown nor subsided and doesn’t belong to anything but itself. a love story between two music labels that found each other in this blissful journey, lossless and something happening somewhere are here to presents the next chapter in their findings. uzoamaka is an original track by king britt from 2002, that still remains as fresh and uplifting as it was 15 years ago. nuno dos santos (sohaso) has been in love with the sonic narrative since it was released, but felt the urge to bring the transformative beauty to a wider audience. in an attempt to recover the original, the original master and pre-master turned out to be lost by the waves of time. calyx mastering have remastered the music straight from vinyl, keeping the raw charm of the original but giving it a sonic facelift to fit with modern standards, also making it available in the digital format for the first time since it’s release. the original by king britt is an ode to the ritual of dance music in it’s purest form. with vocals panning across the stereo field that preach ‘sing, dance, be, free to dance’, it resonates with the primordial human playfulness, joy and expression in all of us. teasing with a melodic bassline, almost reaching twelve minutes running time, it’s a modern hymn that never fails to mesmerize and bring people’s spirit together. besides remastering the original, it gave the opportunity to invite other artists to retell the story. this time the mighty dixon gives the original track an update for modern dance floors. pushing the groove to the foreground, adding some extra percussion and drive while letting the choir guide you to a monumental break in which the chord suspends in the air. “free to… free to… free to…” nuno dos santos has used his magic touch for a short beat edit, which focusses the whole affair on the groove even more. a powerful tool to add some impact to tracks or to break up an otherwise repetitious dj set. mathias schober is back under his sb alias, carefully tightening and shortening the original version from 2002 with his edit to create a version that celebrates the quality of the elements. pushing and pulling, enhancing the entrancing effect of the musical soul.

for its 3rd release, the other planet presents worth way. embark with him on this journey to discovery. a universe full of poetry accompanied by rhythms with lo-fi accents.
this ep was created throughout adventures into the australian wilderness. whilst hiking and driving around mountains, forests and beaches, inspirations were drawn from emotions and connections that were felt in these settings. the tracks reflect the physical and psychological catharsis that can be induced in a landscape that has seen minimal human activity.

following the success of ‘ride’ with miss kittin, eminent sci+tec founder dubfire returns with another chaos-conjuring techno composition. previously the sole-preserve of his epic sense-blurring hybrid show, dubfire is finally unleashing ‘dust devil’… his first solo release in several years, ‘dust devil’ is all about precision momentum. a move that dubfire’s made his signature, you can physically feel movement and destination throughout. especially as we reach the short breakdown where the riff revolves faster and higher, providing space for the echoed stabs that whirl and twist around you intensely. as the drums re-ignite, the riff is suddenly converted into groove energy as the jack-minded persistence brings the elements back together with pure focus. this is what ali has to say… “this was an instrumental i had done that i wasn’t quite sure what to do with. it wasn’t strong enough for a lead single and it always felt as though there was something missing, perhaps a spoken or sung vocal. so i sort of put it out of my mind until it was time to compile the music for the hybrid show back in the summer of 2013. once i had the backbone of the set list, along with the visual look, there seemed to be a more defined mood and look. and when i happened upon this track again it seemed to have been tailor-made for this show. it was also nice to insert something no one had heard before to break things up a bit.

new years deal - two years after the milestone somewhere compilations, something happening somewhere is commemorating the times that have passed, returning with a new chapter in the series. selecting unique pieces of artists known and less known, the somewhere series continue their sound based confessional. telling unheard stories, exposing unseen surfaces and unheard sounds.
somewhere iii is set to be released as two vinyl samplers, with a selection of the tracks featured in the full digital compilations, which will feature four extra digital only tracks. a host of familiar sohaso figures make an appearance, but there is also room for new faces like aril brikha, kaap, ripperton in his stunning collab with love over entropy, equus, tracey and mulder. every artist on this somewhere iii compilation is expressing their unique experience through sound waves, telling stories and uncovering a piece of themselves. there are things radiating in the violet fog, waiting to be discovered. journeys that are worth making, but will not necessarily provide any more answers. something is happening somewhere, once again. love over entropy teaming up with ripperton, could we wish for more? it felt like a dream team combo before we even heard the resulting beauty of saints de glace. inspired by those last nightly frosts of spring days in may, it sounds exactly like those contrasting temperatures and feelings. down tempo organic grooves and a drifting melody that ebbs in and out of consciousness provide disparity with the glimmering pads that lure in the night air waiting to catch you off guard.

originally released in japan in 2015 on dj emmas nitelist music as part of its acid ep series, only a small handful of copies of this 12inch made it to europe. jd twitch was lucky to score a copy and both tracks became firm favourites in his sets and much asked about. twitch felt this music deserved a wider audience so was kindly granted permission to reissue it on optimo trax. yes another double a side release, a1, hiroshi watanabes - infinity sign is a hypno ecstatic acid piano-tingling monolith. a2, kuniyukis acid air is a slow building organic percussive acid freak out that will cause a freak out on the floor. it is hard to do anything with a 303 that is interesting these days but both the tracks on this 12inch are 100% club classic.

dispersion is an ep deep in style, talent and wonder. embellishing the underground kudos of berlin-based techno dj and producer avion, owner of the hotly tipped, and renowned imprint crossing, dispersion is an eclectic mix of cerebral, uncompromising and colorful techno. title track dispersion is a gleaming display of spacious dancefloor beats melancholic, yet industrial. real is clinical, functional techno, emulating some of the wizards influential magic. inverse blends together a contemporary approach to sonic aptitudes, while remaining a strictly dancefloor and body orientated, while enidan a colorful moment of ambient beauty, plays the ep out. it is the first release on marcel fengler s regarded, techno imprint imf in 2017. dispersion is an ambitious, and unique ep, from a true underground and mysterious talent. the eps style embodies the bright, hypnotic and pulsing music that has characterized his releases to date on crossing. talking about the release, fengler states, he got my attention after some pretty strong releases on his own imprint crossing. i felt that this was something i didnt have on my label, but still reflected the idea of imf.

in 2016. i rented out a small piano studio in east london for nearly the whole year and set out to write an introspective, trendless, and mostly beatless album. inspired by albums from this mortal coil and scott walker, who also sought freedom to work outside of the expectations of their previous work, i limited the instrumentation to mostly an acoustic piano and effects, which left space to expose a lot of emotional vulnerabilities about myself and people close to me. writing lullabies about being a mother in a dystopian world, with pensive words about swimming against the current as a female artist, i felt free enough to tell untold truths that i’ve never felt comfortable talking about within music. free, liberated, empowered. naked.

redshape returns to his own label with a retrovisionist release that looks back in time as much as it looks forward to the future. revving up on the a side is shift, a propulsive hurtle to the final frontiers. starting off ominously with just drums, bass and a pollock splatter of toms, the track is soon overrun by an army of relentlessly running basslines, let loose to steer in and out like searching headlights on a dark and endless highway. with a heavier kick, the track shifts into top gear with pensive pads soaring overhead, mesmerising squeaks and his signature attention to percussive detail. on the flip is drive, which switches gears down a notch as an astrospace cruise along intergalactic coastlines - from summery california to shiny coruscant. a rounded pounding beat with heavy sub bass bounces along to a breezy tropical melody and spacious percussive work, before riding off into a cinematic sunset that is as nostalgic as it is hopeful of the c oming dawn. once again on the edge of spatial sound but grounded in analog warmth, redshape has presented a revision of classic record productions that truly punches as it is meant to be felt and heard - on wax. recommended!

after studying dance, kirikoo des aka nsdos, felt the need to create his own sound in order to explore movement. this is how he started imagining a whole new sonic order, an alternative approach to music – through abstraction. nsdos can’t restrain himself to existing technological tools and softwares, he prefers creating his own mediums: futurist instruments made of old audio converters (carte son), gameboy emulators, pieces of metal dismantled and weld together giving form to surreal machines. surrounded by his hybrid tools, nsdos unravels the rectilinear anatomy of techno music. textures are exploded, sounds mutilated, and brought back to their essence. this sonic odyssey, nsdos initiated in his native town paris before exploring it deeper in berlin – a city that he sees as a giant laboratory in which he experimented the field of possibilities. a huge admirer of the dada and lettrism movements, nsdos can be considered as the offspring of a diy culture. he ranks among his icons artists such as christian marley, stelarc or donna haraway who gave him a desire to push the limits of the body, objects and sound. his alternative vision and the way he reinterprets technological tools have made him one of the most important techno hackers of his generation. nsdos doesn’t create, he regenerates and transmutes music. his creative path is empirical, sometimes organic as he puts sensors on insects, his public in trance, trees – everything that comes on his way – and transcribes their movement into sounds. after three maxis, lazer connect in 2013, female guest list in 2015 both signed on parisian music label clekcleckboom recordings and money exchange published in 2016 on his label standalone complex, his new album, intuition, intervenes as the completion of his organic vison of music. inspired by meteorological stations and according to a principle of « bio feedback », nsdos surveyed the movements of nature, turned into data before translating them into sounds, textures and rhythms. the album comes with a series of 5 videos detailing the creative process of the artist – from recording in the middle of nature to the studio. in intuition, nsdos splinters the boundaries between genres and places techno as a matrix. his album reveals his sense of discipline, one that he draws from his passion from japanese dance buto, as well as his interest for biology, his experimental aura through industrial, sometimes nearly metal sounds. all these elements form the essence of whole new movement, unclassifiable, of which he constantly pushes the frontiers.

* nan kolé, producer, dj and head of influential label on-the-rise, gqom oh!, returns to black acre for his debut proper with ‘bayefal’, after first collaborating with nervous horizon’s wallwork on his ‘facts / fyah’ 12” at the back end of 2016. * originally from rome, although now a resident of london, nan kolé has been a major player in the expansion of durban’s gqom sound after discovering it in early 2015. through his label, gqom oh!, he honed in on a network of south african producers operating out of durban, unlocking the keys to a world of music largely untapped by audiences outside of southern and western africa. * ‘bayefal’, he explains, was made while still living in rome and was inspired by a group he formed called pepesoup, which consisted of an italo-liberian singer, karima 2g, and senegalese percussionist and singer, moustapha mbengue. “for me, he (mbengue) was a mentor and taught me a lot spiritually but also mentally”, kolé explains, “and without his hard work i wouldn’t be here for sure. this track is dedicated to him, as he s a muslim bayefal.” a joyous, steadfast drum workout made in the carnival spirit, ‘bayefal’ also serves as an ode to his love for both west african rhythms and more specifically, the gqom sound. * on the flip, ‘malumz’ — backed up with two dark, brooding remixes by durban’s citizen boy and crew, formation boyz — is another track rooted in personal experience. “malumz is a tribute to my gqom oh! family”, kolé explains. “they call me malumz, which in zulu means ‘uncle’. the first time citizen boy called me ‘malumz’, it was overwhelming — i felt a change in my relationship with all the guys, because they started to treat me more as a family member, which meant a lot.” * the original mix, a stark, pulsing drum-track dotted with playful whistles and bleepy sampling again celebrates kolé’s fascination with the gqom sound, while first citizen boy and then formation boyz flip ‘malumz’ with harsher, grittier tones and crunching, industrial textures.

golden age hip-hop by a multi-talented spanish beatmaker, a french singer and three us mcs. the multi-talented alex rocks is back with his debut album rise n shine! after his 7 inch get em up featuring replife, the madrid dj, musician and beatsmith hooked up with french singer jessica fitoussi and us based rappers sleep sinatra, junclassic, and jack jones. he carefully selected the tracks he felt would sit well with each artist, and they did not disappoint. from the pharcyde-evoking title track to the raw soul on moonlight creedence, the rugged vibe of my time and the fiery all in your mind the heart-made beats are the perfect backdrop for the socially conscious and intelligent lyrics provided by his collaborators.

mirror would turn out to be pearce’s final offering as fsa for 15 years, but at the time of its release in 2000 it felt like the start of something exciting and new – it was seen in some quarters as one of the first great records of the millennium. sonically, it was pearce’s most accessible and melodic album. “his sombre, acoustic folk still recalls the gentle melancholy of nick drake,” said the pitchfork review, “but for the first time, the melodies and lyrics can be clearly deciphered.”

even with the first sounds, the organic structures can be heard - and felt. a crystalline crackling of the hi-hat very close to the ear, as if the black volcanic sand of lanzarote would trickling on the metal. the echo of the samples does not point to endless distances, rather, it swings up the cochlea and enters into a special world in which sound material develops a delicate self-life.

a year after his extremely versatile debut ep for figure, viers comes out with another batch of tunes that again set him apart from his peers both in production value and creativeness. touching on the tropes of classic detroit techno, saxton presents a beautifully delicate opening track, rife with life from within the machines while still steadily thumping ahead. it’s the mix of this vital momentum together with a certain restraint, allowing each element to breath. so much that even the slightest adjuments cause maximum effectmetro, as felt on suitably titled stomper nothing changed where everything hits in exactly the right place. same goes for the incessant dialogue of tones on zehn, which sigha expands into a pensive piece, layering soothing washes of synths. not only an exceptional ep in its own right, figure 85 further cements viers as a skilled craftsman with seemingly endless imagination.

in 1979, emma dorgu decided it was time to act. he’d torn up the lagos live scene with the thermometers and conquered the airwaves with the single, ‘world people’. but there were injustices afoot, not just in nigeria, but in south africa and zimbabwe and across the continent as well, and he felt that something needed to be done. roverman was his politicized call to action. blackman akeeb kareem lent him the instruments and let him rehearse in his sitting room. dorgu sets his stall out early in the reggae-tinged ‘free my people’ calling for freedom for south africa, freedom for zimbabwe, indeed, freedom for all. thankfully political injustice hadn’t rid emma completely of his urge to get on down. the new york ghetto funk of ‘roverman’ and ‘loving’ and the straighthead boogie of ‘afro fever’ leaven the message with a funky beat and an irresistible pull towards the dancefloor. on roverman emma dorgu has achieved that that rarest of beats, an album that challenges your mind while it speaks to your feet. protest music has never sounded so funky.

aequilon records proudly present it’s superb first release! boyd goosman (who used to be part of the techno outfit noirdegout) was known for his powerfull releases on no fear records, and white noise (dave clake’s imprint) which have been played by some of the most recognised djs of the scene (laurent garnier, fabrice lig, dave clarke ...). he now works on his own, finding his niche in strong but deep and evocative techno. this new material on aequilon show his love for electro, detroit vibes, but also berlin’s modern techno. after spending so many hours in recent years dancing all other europe on the weirdest and wild dancefloors, boyd goosman felt that it was the right moment to express again his unique sonic trademarks. for this first release on aequilon, we asked to berlin’s resident cadency aka héctor oaks (reclaim your city, key vinyl, oaks records ...) to deliver an absolute killer remix of ‘lost control’ and he did it with an ultraphat bassheavy monster!

prevnext nathan fake will release his fourth album providence - his most personal and profoundly emotional work to date - via ninja tune. crafted in the wake of a crippling two year spell of writer’s block during which he was unable to compose any music at all, the esteemed british producer describes the record “as a massive step up both in my career and in my life in general… it felt like i’d come alive again”.

in the last two years, paul régimbeau had put his most personal and earliest musical project mondkopf in stand-by mode. the rich arrangement work that defined his sound wasn’t fitting his desire of simplistic intensity anymore. his different collaborations (autrenoir, violent magic orchestra with vampilla & pete swanson, foudre!, oiseaux-tempêtes) forced him to explore new aspects of playing electronic music like a regular band member. the young producer was experimenting being a musician and embracing the experience. but after a year without composing, things changed on the tragic night of november 13th.
on this very night, the parisian set up machines he had acquired in the last few months and started improvising what became the first song on his new album: “they fall, but you don’t”. since that moment, paul regularly spent nights experimenting and recording what he felt at the time. while previous records reflected months of fine-tuning, these songs represent the mood of one evening, one night, the ones when you surrender yourself to the melancholy of the moment. much like a diary, the album is a compilation of these moments that escape reality in a chaotic and dark year.

nathan bartell grew up in a little town called ashburn, georgia but soon moved to atlanta georgia where he began to perform in the night clubs. in 1973 he released “top going down, bottom going up” on the soul-po-tion label. bartell remembers: “at the time i was having family problems. my wife didn’t want me and i was deep in love. i felt at that time that i was at the bottom of the pit and i wanted to rise up out of that mess because my wife made me feel that i was a nobody. i was not good enough for her - nobody wants you when you are down and out. she felt that she were on the top and i was on the bottom. this song was a message at that time.” there is nothing for us to add except that we are delighted to bring this little beauty back to new life.

raining colors was recorded after returning from the bpm season in mexico.inspired by the slow tempos and crazy rhythms heard while dancing at the sacbe jungle party this was the result.remembrance of breath was created for our performance before last years desert hearts. we felt it would compliment the surroundings of this wonderful outdoor festival.solar flare response was originally created for fun using our friend, colin c s, alchemy plug-in sound pack essential alchemy for loopmasters. we were so excited with how it turned out we decided to turn it into a full piece. these songs reflect the deeper and heavier side of our creative output and the kind of music we enjoy playing at night after the freaks come out.

berlin-cologne based duo atlantik is well known for incredible ravish live sets. people go ballistic! georg and clemens played their set more than three years ago on one of the parties and everybody instantly felt in love with it. atlantik has got a residency at the world famous sisyphos berlin where they set up their impressing analog machine park on a regular basis. the snö ep contains two original tracks plus a crispy remix by feines tier friend schlepp geist.

hicago, 1991. the house jam records go from strength to strength, having already released a slew of influential and classic records from 1987 onwards, the duo of larry thompson and rick lenoir are making their impression felt on the dance music scene not only in their own city, but on a worldwide scale. enter tikkle, another undercover pseudonym used by the pair for their own special brand of deep house tracks. -outer limits- was the first release using this name and is an essential ep of midwestern machine grooves. the tracks have that rough, basement vibe with a healthy dose of deep, melodic qualities thrown in, the track -outer limits- for example, has a sophisticated almost jazz like vibe that wouldn t sound out of place on an early ur release! the second track on the ep -in the beginning...- is a driving cut based around mach s legendary -on & on- (often cited as one of the -first- house tracks!) with thompson and lenoir adding some dope keys, strings and extra drum machines all with that trademark lnr swing. -holding on- is a stripped back, percussion led, heads down kinda jam... the kind of track to make dance-floors sweat, solid stuff indeed! the whole ep has been reissued as it was originally released in 1991, with all original house jam label artwork intact. for this special 2016 pressing rick lenoir dug in his vault of reel to reel tapes and excavated a long lost tikkle track that has never been released..... until now - -my mood (rick s cosmic mix edit)- is the closing track of the ep and is a fresh, 24 year old acid track with ocean deep pads - what a discovery, and one that will undoubtedly excite house heads! this track is exclusive to this repress! all audio has been lifted from rick lenoir s private collection of reel to reel tapes from his basement and remastered accordingly. this reissue has been realised with the full involvement of thompson & lenoir and is 100% legit

as we welcome another talented artist to our family we asked viken about the first part of a two part release and he told us it s really important to understand that this ep is a series of pictures telling a story. combining the names of all the tracks one gets this interesting and dreamy sentence, on a blue road a white shadow feels the winter. to translate these pictures into music, i needed a very particular sound. since i am a huge fan of jazz music i took one of my favorite records, used a lot of samples and reworked them in my own way. from the technical aspect, i decided to reconnect with my first love: analog machines. i love working with sound textures. i stayed away from my laptop and all my vst/plugins as i felt the need to compose these tracks in an unusual way: i wanted the sound to be really pure. that s the reason why this process was so essential for me. for me, this ep is the first one to sound like this. this is the first of two releases from a deeply talented soul. a patient collage of house, jazz, acid squiggles and deep emotion. played and loved all summer long by lee burridge at all day i dream, these tracks will stay with you through winter and into next summer.

the extraordinary prolongation of sound jerked polly’s pretty head away from her work at the calibration machine. today’s jobs had seen her at her thorough and meticulous best but as afternoon melted easily into evening, these latest reverberations meant she’d no longer be able to focus to the level required. her boss had just dropped the bomb. as her ear drums filtered the noise, the technician’s bright mind was flooded with delight, her eyes no longer felt dry and tight with concentration, she was caught riding the crest of a massive wave of admiration. sitting her specs on the desk and pushing herself off the comfortable heat of her work stool, miss filla let the soundwaves pull her to her feet and carry her off to the main source of the captivating music. in honour of dixon avenue basement jams spending four years at the forefront of the global electronic music scene a new release was planned to shake the foundation to the very core. techno wizard big miz had been charged with delivering the goods and by the gods, the glaswegian had cracked it! he’d created, not just new tunes, but a whole new fucking genre. polly could feel the vibrations pulsating through every part of her curvaceous body as she sashayed along to the seductive beat.

silencio, a new label out of chicago, will debut its first release from new young talent cirq’on titled the other side ep. on the a-side, “screaming around”, makes its presence felt with a beefy bass line that periodically stacks and stutters throughout its progression. this track is impossible to resist. even the most hardened scenester, the type of person who never dances in an effort to look cool, will be forced to cut a rug as they acquiesce to the bombardment of this pleasing beat. peppered throughout with spooky vocals, tempestuous tones and mysterious snippets, it leads you down a path of rhythms that pushes past the point of no return. similar to the first transmissions intentionally broadcast out into our universe for the purpose of contacting intelligent life, “the messenger” delivers on the b-side with layers of haunting harmonies that unfold over simple, satisfying drums. it’s steadily driven by scintillating sounds in the form earthbased radio signals that rise and fall, as if bouncing off of orbiting space debris on their journey to the great unknown. this track is best described as a mind-exp.

introducing klorin, a collaboration between kenton slash demon and norin, also known as the lead singer of swedish synth-pop trio lust for youth. their debut ep noncompliance floats inbetween industrial hypnotic techno and dark ambient, created in a number of early morning sessions in kenton slash demons copenhagen studio. we were fascinated by the idea of combining something that was almost primal or tribe like rhythmically with an atmosphere that felt tecnologically advanced and futuristic, aiming to capture a feeling of being detached from society in an industrialized, achromatized and modern world.

hotflush are proud to introduce an exciting young artist, pyur, along with her singular debut lp epoch sinus. despite her relative newness, pyur meets the world with fully formed and unique signatures in both visual and sonic work, revealing a deep artistry that transcends medium. growing up in munich, in and amongst the same fecund scene that spawned artists like the zenker brothers and skee mask, pyur cut her teeth from a young age as a guitarist and singer before becoming spellbound by the electronic world’s endless scope for sound design. endowed with innately strong synaesthesia and reared in a shamanic household, she tells how music “played the biggest role in my growth. it alone had the purpose to help me dissolve boundaries, discover the beauty of life’s mechanisms, create freely. it talked. soon i felt like the music was making me, not the other way round.” epoch sinus is a seamless and heartfelt whole, a life-like being unto itself, describing the disintegration of barriers between the self and the all. here pyur offers an intimate and personal statement, combining knowledge of universal harmony with electronic music. she states: “i m mainly influenced by my inner visions and nature itself, yet also a lot from club culture, which is undoubtedly an important space of connection and freedom for so many people”. the record dances playfully between supposedly incompatible qualities: moments of brutality turn to softness, new life embraces decomposition, while explosive rhythmic and melodic structures are tempered with gentle and subtle percussion.

the fouth and final limited edition delicacies 12inch this year is, in an slightly counter-intuitive twist, not taken from the forthcoming smd album, welcome to sideways. it didn t quite fit in with the flow of the track selection on the album, but we felt it really warranted its own separate release particularly because of the ace matrixxman remix. both versions are driving, minimal techno, scattered through with melodic bursts but matrixxman s lsd rework pushes the bpms and frenetic energy to new levels

some things just get better with age. house grooves vol. 1 mark a part in history, where a young move d felt ignited by the classic house music sounds of the day. strict rhythms and nu grooves forged masterful networks with bleeps and clonks, pianos helped synthesizing dopamine and the phuture was wide open. house grooves vol.1 embodies that special time and place with a bunch of vintage tracks saved from the abyss. respectfully edited and dusted with gloves, it features move ds sought-after magic moment i gave my love, a collaboration with mannheims house hero see-base, the bass line swing of babyphonk and a breakbeat-led remix by shan & gerd janson that tries to sound like it could have happened back them. the bottom line is: the past can make the future feel at home.

lars von licht’s -from arrows“ is exactly one of this sort: an almost 15min live jam, both simple and sophisticated. a track for special moments and for special people, perfect for reanimating supérieur. one of the frst persons whom i gave this tune last year s summer was lee burridge, who played it straight away at burning man. admittedly, this release took some time, but we wanted to fnd the right moment and the right remixer. we considered many options but came back to one of our own people in the end. dodi palese who released his connaisseur debut earlier this year, felt like the right person to challenge this track and we were right. he has transformed it into a tribalistic high energy bomb, with an unexpected, big synth theme, blowing you away. yes, we are more than happy about this release and it was well worth the wait.

when hitting a streak it s best to keep going. for a prolific producer like ubx127 one ep just wasn t enough to keep up with his continuous output of high quality techno. constant permutation part 2 picks up where its predecessor left off and provides for another batch of deadly club weapons. living up to its title, beatless explorations sends out eerie signals deep into outer space, anticipating with suspense to maybe find some life form s response. it arrives in form of driving track felt and its ricocheting, arpeggiated synths, which would aptly soundtrack the decent of alien attack ships on our planet. weighty, yet mysterious Örnsberg seems to echo with the cries of long lost souls that have been trapped eternally inside its icy caverns. the ep ends with a masterclass in immersive sound design, a constant ebb and flow of layers, winding their way into the listeners subconscious. filling up a pair of twelves to the brim with tunes this well thought out and executed, ubx127 further displays his vast potential and leaves us with excitement for whatever he might be coming up with next.
